FINANCIAL ADVISORS
MARKETING FOR FINANCIAL ADVISORS
Most of your growth arrives by referral. Which means your website is almost never how someone finds you — it's how they check you, minutes before deciding whether to call.
You're not discovered. You're verified.
THE PROBLEM
Compliance-safe and forgettable are not the same thing.
Advisory websites tend to look like they were built by a compliance department, because in effect they were. Stock photography of a couple on a dock. A paragraph about fiduciary duty. Four service tiles that could belong to any firm in the country.
None of it is wrong. All of it is invisible.
Meanwhile the person looking at it was referred by someone they trust, is about to hand over their retirement, and is doing the only due diligence they know how to do — thirty seconds on your website. What they're looking for isn't information. It's reassurance that you're real, current, and the kind of firm their friend said you were.
The referral did the selling. The website only has to avoid undoing it.
WHAT ACTUALLY MATTERS HERE
Three things, and none of them is a brochure.
-
01
The firm has to look like it exists in the present.
Current team, current photography, a copyright year that isn't three years old. Small signals, and they're the ones a nervous prospect reads fastest.
-
02
The people have to be visible.
Advisory is bought from a person, not a firm. Real names, real faces, real backgrounds. A site that hides its advisers behind a corporate voice is fighting its own sales process.
-
03
There has to be something to read.
Not thought-leadership for its own sake. Evidence that you think — which is the entire thing a prospect is trying to assess and cannot assess from a service list.
COMPLIANCE ISN'T THE OBSTACLE
It's the constraint, and constraints are workable.
Advertising rules, testimonial and endorsement requirements, disclosure obligations, and at most firms a review step before anything goes public. That's the reality and it isn't going away.
What it means practically: work gets planned around review cycles rather than shipped and edited. Claims are written to survive scrutiny the first time. Nothing goes out that creates a problem for your CCO.
Most agencies find that intolerable and quietly avoid the sector. Which is exactly why the firms that market well in this space stand out so easily — the bar is low because so few are willing to clear it.
WHAT WE BUILD
- Websites built for verification, not discovery
- Adviser and team profiles that read like people
- Content planned around compliance review rather than around it
- Local search and Google Business Profile
- Review handling within the rules that apply to you
- Clear, defensible positioning that distinguishes you from the firm down the road
- Measurement that shows which referrals actually convert
WHY THIS WORKS
Referral businesses live or die on the check.
Every business built on word of mouth has the same hidden leak: the recommendation gets made, the prospect looks you up, and something they see quietly contradicts what they were told. Nobody reports it. The call simply never comes.
Fixing that is the highest-return work available to a referral-driven firm, and it's almost always cheaper than trying to generate demand you already have.
NEXT STANDARD
Find out what a referral sees.
The audit follows the exact path someone takes after being told about you — search, profile, website, first impression — and names where it undersells the firm. Findings inside 48 to 72 hours, and they're yours whether or not we work together.
